Day 58 - "Get a life"

There is a thread on the P90X message boards on Facebook called Spousal Sabotage. In it, different people discuss their experiences with their spouses and families not being supportive during their P90X journey. I encountered this myself today. Someone very close to me is having a hard time accepting the fact that I am doing and enjoying P90X.

I think that most people see intense exercise and strict diet in a negative light, or as a bad thing. Seldom do people see it as a positive, and if they do, they're usually supporting you to be a good friend and not because they believe in the program. I have many friends at school who think I'm crazy for passing up cookies and snacks, but they know now what it is I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and how much it means to me, so I'm not even offered treats and snacks anymore. It's become sort of a joke now for them to pass the snacks right by me. But I love this kind of support, the "we think you're crazy but if you're happy, we're happy" support.

This other person is not supportive. She is neither encouraging nor motivating. And she's certainly not understanding. She can't fathom why I'm doing such a long and brutal exercise program. When I post about it, she gets annoyed, even if I'm proclaiming my progress. She says I should "get a life" and stop being "so obsessed". She even said that no one reads my posts (you guys are a testament to that untruth, so feel free to leave your comments!). I was not overweight when I started P90X. I was not unhealthy, out of shape nor self-conscious. Because of this, it completely boggles this person's mind that I would do P90X. She has that classic attitude of 'if you're thin, why exercise?'. She's called me skinny, which I hate. It seems as though the happier I become, with my health, body and life in general, the more unhappy she becomes. And I do not understand.

So, this post is partly to rant and partly to raise awareness. If you're calling someone a "loser" and then telling them it was "just a joke" and to not take it so hard, you need to wake up. You need to see that you're hurting that person and, if they're not strong enough, you WILL bring them down. If any good came out of this, it's that I'm even more motivated now to kick ass and keep bringing it. She will not slow my progress. She will not bring me down. She will not win.

  1. I enjoy reading your blog and hearing how much goes into P9OX. You have seriously accomplished a lot in such a little amount of time and everyone should take you doing this as a bit of inspiration to have the will power to accomplish goals! Keep up the good work man.

  2. i think its kind of cool that you keep suck a negitive friend, every hidden insult is another reason to keep you motivated. you looked great in before shot and even better as youve gone on. I think people that mock you for this life style change do it because they cant or wont. your young and fit and learning how to take better care of your body. Should you wait until your older and really unhealthy, then when your doctor says you should lose wieght, then struggle to lose 40 or more pounds.

If what you are doing doesnt motivate others to follow you, then nothing will and they will always not be happy.
anyways I want to thank you for what your doing here. :)

  3. Thank you guys.. It's amazing, I get more compliments and questions about the program, but one negative attitude was like a slap in the face. I should be able to brush it off, but I'm having a hard time with that because this means so much to me. So, thanks for your comments! They're appreciated.

  4. Well said John. That's exactly what I tell her! Having a healthy lifestyle is a constant reminder to some people that they do not.

  5. I read and 100% support you in this. You've even made me want to do it! Keep up the good work, and use that comment as encouragement to keep going. Use it to push yourself harder and show her that you have strength and motivation.

  7. Don't even listen to the negativity. You know who you are, what you're doing, and why you're doing it. YOU are the one who can tell the changes in how you feel emotionally and physically... You look great, Heather, and I get the feeling you feel great, too.

  9. P90X is not just a 90 day workout, its a way of life. I'm addicted to it and the other workouts Beachbody comes out with.

My friends were the same way when I talked about the program until that ah-ha moment happened. I went golfing with a friend of mine and out drove him by 30 yards all because of P90X. Now, all of my friends are doing it and are loving it.

Your profile says you live in Canada. Is this right? If not, you would be ideal to be a Beach Body Coach. I dont see anywhere on your site saying you are one, but Beachbody does not allow Canadians to do it right now.

Go to www.BeachBodyCoach.com/wrkoutjorney and click on Coach to learn more.

I got to meet Tony. Are you jealous?
